Often I am asked how was possible for an italian man to became a field ethnographer on Afro-Cuban religions. This is one of my answers:
Antonio Machado in “Nuevas Canciones” once wrote:
“Your prophecy, poet.
Tomorrow the mutes will speak:
Heart and stone”.
When I saw the Congo Diaspora I became acquainted with the realization on that “prophecy”, the Obeah and the Wanga. I became aware then of the concept of ENSILA in the most noble, authentic, poetical, traditional and magickal way.
Ensila means many things…
