When I was a kid I use to spend all summer times in the mountains of my province.
Hiking and collecting mushrooms and herbs were the most common activities together with wood chopping.
It was forbidden to go into the woods alone, visiting caves and ponds.
They were the Houses of the ANGUANA.
The Anguana is a folk creature, often linked to waters and caves reputed to be a kind of fairy.
Not dangerous as a witch but potentially harmful being from another reality.
Some where very beautiful but with snake tails or hen feet. Meeting a very beautiful woman alone in the woods was considered a dangerous omen. Some old legend survived but unfortunately I have never seen one or if I did, I don’t remember 🙂
