When I was a kid, my blessed and beloved Mother (R.I.P.) told me that Her Mom used to arrange the cards every night in this position (more or less) after a long solitary game done with reciting prayers.
My uncles, two of Them, were figthing in the Colonies during the Second World War.
My Grandmother used to do that for making sure they were able to come back home safe and alive. In old times, a soldier, a patriot was not alone and was supported by family and state. Even with prayers and magic!!!
